Dr Ekenedirichukwu ‘Ekene’ Obianom

Ekene is an Embedded Systems & Electronics Design Engineer within the iiTECH team at iiCON. Working closely with Professor Patryk Kot and a multidisciplinary team, he leads the hardware design, prototyping, and validation of state-of-the-art microwave handheld and wearable sensing platforms. Leveraging his knowledge in embedded machine learning and wireless connectivity (e.g., Bluetooth), he works alongside team specialists to integrate smart algorithms, digital electronics, microcontrollers, and communication modules into cohesive systems for real-time analysis, detection, monitoring, and prevention of infectious diseases.

Working within this highly collaborative environment, he contributes across the full technology lifecycle from initial electronic concept and prototyping through to hardware validation, regulatory readiness, and real-world deployment. He is helping to shape cutting-edge sensor technologies with tangible global health impact.

Ekene’s foundation is in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, which he further built upon during his PhD in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Leicester (completed in 2026), focusing on custom electronics and embedded machine learning applications. He brings over eight years of progressive experience across biomedical instrumentation, physiological signal analysis, wireless hardware integration, and embedded systems design, combining analytical precision with creative system design to develop scalable solutions for next-generation medical technologies.
